Orthodontics not only gives you a more confident smile, they also help align crooked teeth so that they are easier to clean and reduce jaw pain. There are many methods today that can help straighten teeth, and Invisalign is one of them. If you or a loved one would like to know more about Invisalign, read on…
How does Invisalign work?
Invisalign is a type of braces that uses a clear tray as aligners. The aligners are made of a solid piece of plastic strong enough to slowly move teeth into a proper position through pressure. The trays are to be replaced every one to two weeks, and each replacement is designed differently to increase pressure to continue shifting and moving your teeth. They are custom-made for each individual who chooses to use them.
It is advised that patients wear their Invisalign tray most hours of their day (20-22 hours daily) to see faster results. The plastic tray aligners are easily removed and should be removed for eating, brushing, flossing or during a special occasion. The entire series of aligners could take up to 9 months or more, depending on the patient’s needs.
Benefits of Invisalign clear aligners
- Removable
Most of us would not like to have something stuck on us for months. Invisalign can be removed anytime, which helps especially when it comes to cleaning your teeth. - Comfort
Unlike traditional braces made with wires and metals, the plastic aligners feel more natural. The rubbing of the metals on your cheek from the traditional braces can cause the cheeks to feel raw on the inside. - Aesthetic
The metal-in-the mouth-look might not be something you would like to have especially when you’re older. Invisalign is nearly invisible when worn and can help one feel less anxious when talking and smiling. - Easier teeth cleaning
It is a lot of work to remove food and plaque when wearing the traditional metal braces. Invisalign is removable and allows for easier cleaning, however, you would have to clean the plastic aligners. - No repairs required
There is no need for fixes, unlike the old braces. If the Invisalign breaks, you can move on to your next series of aligners.
