A dental filling is one of the ways used to restore damaged and decayed teeth to their normal shape and function. Before placing the filling material in your tooth, we will first remove any decay and clean the tooth and then fill it out. By sealing off spaces in the teeth, it can be ensured that bacteria do not enter the tooth again and further instances of tooth decay can be prevented.
At the office of Dr. Mamta Patel, we use metal free composite fillings that are made to match the natural color of your teeth. These are less invasive and much longer lasting than traditional amalgam fillings. They can be easily shaped and molded to enhance stained and chipped teeth and add strength to a damaged tooth. The best part is that the procedure is painless and can be completed within a single visit to our office. Composite fillings are an ideal solution for people who have minor problems with their teeth but have an otherwise healthy smile.
Procedure of placing Tooth Colored Fillings
Before placing composite filling on your teeth, a dental cleaning is conducted. The teeth are thoroughly dried. Then, the tooth on which the filling is to be placed is prepared by removing any decay and some part of the enamel. The composite material is then bonded to the tooth using a bonding agent and hardened using a special curing light. Once the resin has hardened, the tooth is polished and shaped to give it a natural looking finish.
Tooth colored fillings are highly resistant to normal wear and can last for up to 5 years if they are cared for properly.
