Veneers (Composite Resin and Porcelain)
Dental veneers can help when looking to cover several dental problems and correct your smile. They are a simple alternative and considered the instant orthodontic treatment that can fix gaps, and the shape, size, and color of your teeth. They can be made out of composite resin or porcelain, which gives them the appearance of natural teeth.
Veneers are thin shells that are custom-made to fit over your teeth. Your tooth is shaved to remove the outermost layers to fit the porcelain or resin veneer. These materials are very durable and although they are very thin, once the shell is bonded and cured onto your healthy tooth, it can help it become very strong. Good oral hygiene and care can let them last up to fifteen years.
During your first visit, your dentist here at Parkway Dental will examine you and see which teeth would benefit from veneers. Once the outer layer is shaven off, this is so that the shell’s thickness doesn’t look bulky on your teeth. Your dentist will then, with the use of a mold, take an impression of your teeth and create a mold so that your veneers can be custom-made to fit over your teeth perfectly.
On the second visit, when it is time to put the veneers on – the dentist will fit them to see if they fit properly before bonding. Once they are bonded, your teeth will be cleaned and a clear liquid, the color of your tooth, will be applied to it, this is a bonding adhesive that will be applied to your teeth and veneer, which will bond the two and harden it with the use of a curing light.
Once your teeth are ready, they will be filed and smoothed over so that they are comfortable to wear. They will then be polished; your teeth will be flossed and cleaned.
