Professional Teeth Cleanings and Complete Checkups
Dentists recommend that you get at least two professional cleanings a year. This is because although you might be doing a great job at home with your oral hygiene, it is still very important to get the little extra help from these cleanings. The treatment usually consists of a thorough clean, reaching areas where we might not be able to reach with our toothbrush, and cleaning between the gum line, and teeth were most of the bacteria accumulates.
Fluoride is also part of the professional cleanings and although you can find it as a common ingredient in most toothpaste; fluoride treatment done at the dentist office will not only strengthen your teeth but also help you fight bacteria more effectively by coating your teeth to prevent the bacteria from sticking to the surface of your teeth.
A complete checkup will allow your dentist to check for any cavities or existing dental conditions, but also to plan out a treatment plan to avoid these from happening in the future. Here at Parkway Dental, we believe in using the latest technology to offer our patients the best service we can, that is why we use digital X-rays, which are used for the comprehensive exams, and are a great alternative to normal X-rays as it reduces radiation by up to 90%. We also use the Cam-X SpectraTM, which is the only caries detection aid that works like Doppler radar to discover caries earlier. This technology allows us to plan better your treatment and give you the best dental care we possibly can.
Complete Checkup Procedure:
Your dentist will carefully examine your mouth paying extra attention to your teeth and gums. He will also evaluate your jaw bite and bone structure through the use of digital X-rays to check the condition of your bite.
The dentist will also carry out a quick screening to check for oral cancer, paying particular attention to lumps, irregular tissue, and abnormalities on your lips, tongue, cheeks and neck. If necessary, other tests will be carried out to eliminate the possibility of oral cancer.
Professional Cleaning:
A dental hygienist, or dentist, will carry out the cleaning, by thoroughly brushing and cleaning each individual tooth. With the use of special tools, he will pick and reach the areas that are hard to reach to remove plaque or tartar buildup.
After your teeth have already been brushed and rinsed, they will be polished and dental sealants and fluoride will then be applied in order to act as a protective coat that will prevent cavities and buildup from forming.
Here at Parkway Dental we know how important it is for our patients to have a bright and healthy smile, and we also want to educate them about the prevention of oral cancer.
